I like searching for free wordpress themes on google and I have downloaded lots of those for my blogs. There are lots of professional templates and girly templates I have downloaded. The recent one is for my contest blog. I download this template and didn’t even bothered tweaking the template since it’s only for online contests I’m joining.
Yesterday, I was thinking of tweaking the template when I found out that there’s a link on top of the banner. It’s in grey font so it’s unnoticeable. I only noticed because I was about to change the color of the header.
What I did was searched for the link but couldn’t found it. I checked the header file and found out that it’s 64 bit encoded. What I did was to look for decryptor to remove the link but couldn’t decrypt it even if I was able to find out. I then tried to remove the encrypted part. Good thing the link was removed after this, else I have to look for another wordpress theme and I really like that theme for my contest blog.
Lesson learned, aside from having other blogs the same as my template, it’s dangerous to use free wordpress themes unless it’s from wordpress.org or from sites offering templates for free. Better yet, check the files before you install them to check of suspicious ones.
